head off, head out, head in, do somebody's head in

 

오늘은 head + 전치사 (off, out, in)의 뜻을 알아볼까요? 

 

 

Longman Dictionary에서 찾아본 head off의 뜻입니다.

 

head off 

 

1. to leave to go to another place

 

2. head something off :

to prevent something from happening,

especially something bad

 

3. head somebody off :

to stop someone going somewhere

by moving in front of them

 

 

먼저, to leave to go to another place. 

'다른 장소로 가기 위해 떠나다.'라는 의미를

가지고 있습니다. 

 

어느 장소에서 다른 장소로 떠날 때, 

 

I’m heading off now.

(나 지금 간다.) 

 

라고 말해주면 되겠죠? 

 

두번째 의미는,  

to prevent something from heppening,

especially something bad

'어떤 (특히 나쁜)일이 일어나는 것을 막다'

 

The president intervened to head off the conflict.

(갈등을 막기 위해서 대통령이 개입하였다.) 

 

 

세번째는 

to stop someone going somewhere

by moving in front of them

'누군가의 앞에서 그(들)이 어떠한 장소로 가는 것을 막다'

라는 의미가 있다고 합니다. 

 

Soldiers headed them off at the border.

(군인들을 그들을 국경에서 막아섰다.)

head out 

 

to depart, begin a journey 

(떠나다, 여정을 시작하다) 

 

head out 도 역시 떠나다라는 의미를 가지는데요

어디로인지는 상관 없이 어떠한 장소에서

밖으로 나갈 때 사용한다고 해요. 

 

 

I’m heading out to see a friend.

(나 친구 만나러 나간다.)

head in 

 

to enter 

(들어가다)

 

head in은 어떠한 장소로 들어갈 때

쓰이는 표현이라고 해요. 

 

 

Let’s head in!

(들어가자!)

 

 

head in이 들어간 이디엄하나 

배우고 가 볼까요?

do sb's head in 

 

to make someone feel confused or unhappy

(누군가를 혼란스럽거나 언짢게 만들다)

 

 

Getting up at four o'clock every morning was doing my head in.

(매일 아침 4시에 일어나는 것은 짜증나)

 

Shut up! You're doing my head in.

(조용이 좀 해. 너 때문에 정신이 산만해. (머리가 어지러워, 짜증나)
